CoDoLo (@codolo_) Bursts onto Hip Hop Scene with AGARTHA
Abilene, TX – Courtney L. (known to fans as “CoDoLo”) happened upon his music career at an unlikely time. A recent graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, where he graduated with a degree in Sports Fitness, CoDoLo decided to abandon a career in sports and became determined to make a future with music. “I woke up one day, and something clicked,” says Courtney, explaining the abrupt move from sports to music. Having grown up surrounded by Christianity, and attending a Christian college after transferring from the University of Houston, Courtney began “questioning everything I’d been taught my entire life,” says the artist. The father of three took a leap of faith and sprang full force into music, departing from religion and using his craft as a way to navigate his new outlook on life.
Courtney’s music is what he calls “CountrySmoove,” a fusion between the hyped “turn up” sounds one might hear on the radio and a laid back, chill vibe. His taste in music is diverse, ranging from hip-hop, to indie R&B, and beyond. “I know how to give people what they want, but with some substance,” says the artist. CoDoLo’s music is a refreshing departure from traditional Top 40 radio hits and new-age hip-hop, which he calls “watered down at times.”
CoDoLo’s latest project, which recently dropped on SoundCloud, is an eight-track album entitled AGARTHA, which is inspired by his thoughts on society and religion, and his journey from Christianity to a newfound perspective on life.
Between his unique sense of self and his height (topping the charts at 6’’4), when the artist enters a room, he does so with presence…very self-assured and unique. His advice for other aspiring artists? “Don’t rely on other people to hand you stuff – Do your own research and legwork to achieve the goals and status you desire.”
